The Tread Lightly Award - business market

The green debate continues to be one of the most important issues to affect the travel industry in 2008; since 14 November 2007 Eurostar journeys are carbon-neutral, and we are continually working on our 10-point plan to reduce our carbon footprint further.

This category is open to all our third parties within business markets. Tell us how you have focused on being greener and how you have promoted a greener Eurostar in your marketing campaigns.

How to nominate

Entrants are free to nominate on behalf of their company or you can nominate a partner that you work with (corporate organisation or Travel Management Company), who has delivered a clear initiative that drives both awareness of carbon output and the commitment to carbon reduction.

Judging criteria

  • Demonstrates clear examples of environmental initiatives that have been implemented within the organisation
    • What challenges have they faced and how did they overcome them?
  • Demonstrates creative ideas for communicating Eurostar’s Tread Lightly messages within the business
    • Were the ideas innovative and different?
    • Were the methods of communication effective?
    • Is the method likely to catch people’s eye and make them take notice of the message?
  • Demonstrates the use of communication methods to convey green messages and achieve compliance with environmental policy
    • How have they made effective use of communication channels?
    • Are the benefits of the initiative widely understood?

Your entry

The judges are looking for original and creative initiatives that have made a real difference to an organisation’s awareness of the environment, and they will also bear in mind how successful the initiative has been.

  1. What initiatives have been implemented to encourage the reduction of carbon emissions and to improve environmental behaviours?
  2. What challenges did you face when first implementing your environmental initiatives and how did you overcome them?
  3. How does Eurostar’s Tread Lightly initiative help with your organisation’s goals for corporate social responsibility?
  4. How do you communicate your environmental policies? Judges are looking for any innovative and original ways of getting the message across.
  5. Why do the organisation’s initiatives stand out from what everybody else is doing?
  6. Is there any other information the judges should know?
